It includes four blank filter holders with their retaining rings, a tool for installing these rings, and small round labels for identifying the filters.

For filters whose mounts interfere with the FilterCube

The FilterCube 50 uses a limited interior space to accommodate filters. The manufacturer explains that the housing of some 2-inch mounted filters can cause physical interference if it is too thick. The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter housing when its thickness—measured without the threads—exceeds 6 mm. The shallow housing is designed to hold the filter after it has been removed from its original mount.

WandererAstro also specifies a maximum cell thickness of 7 mm for the FilterCube. However, due to manufacturing tolerances, a cell close to this limit—even if it exceeds 6 mm—may already get stuck. This distinction is important: the nominal 2-inch diameter alone is therefore not sufficient to determine whether a mounted filter will fit properly into the wheel.

Four cells and their tool

The four cells provided are blank: the kit does not include the optical filters themselves. Each cell has a ring designed to hold the filter in place, and the included tool is used to install these rings. The small round labels can be written on to identify the filters and their positions. The kit is therefore a replacement accessory for the mounts, separate from the FilterCube wheel and the filters used with it.

Before removing an original housing, verify that your filter can be removed and reinstalled in the replacement housing. The manufacturer’s website does not provide an exhaustive list of compatible filters: the presence of a 2-inch mount alone does not guarantee that every filter can be transferred. Also consult your filter manufacturer’s instructions if there are any restrictions on removing it.

Identify the right solution

Start by measuring the filter mount without its thread and compare this measurement to the specifications provided by WandererAstro. If it exceeds 6 mm, the manufacturer recommends using the short filter holder to prevent interference in the FilterCube. A replacement tutorial is available on their website; be sure to review it before handling the filters. The filter wheel and photographic filters are not included in this kit.

Manufacturer

WandererAstro

Application

Low-profile filter housings for 2-inch filters

Wheel referred to

Wanderer FilterCube 50

Contents

4 blank cells with retaining rings, a tool, and round labels

Recommendation Threshold

Root cell extending more than 6 mm beyond the thread

The WandererAstro kit of low-profile filter holders for 2-inch filters allows you to replace the mounts on certain filters when their original holders are too thick for the Wanderer FilterCube 50.
