Product description

15 mm Plössl Eyepiece: Key Points

The 15 mm Plössl Eyepiece is a 15-mm astronomical eyepiece offering an apparent field of 50°. It mounts on a 1.25-inch barrel and has a 10-mm eye relief. This configuration is suitable for observing star clusters, compact deep-sky objects, and general-purpose observing, depending on your telescope’s focal length.

What is this model best suited for?

The Plössl formula provides a way to design a range of magnifications without seeking an extreme apparent field of view. Pay particular attention to the eye relief: it varies with the focal length and determines the position of the eye.

  • The manufacturer intends these focal lengths for deep-sky and planetary observation and recommends using them in combination with Powermates.

Frequently asked questions

What is the magnification with this eyepiece?
With a telescope that has a focal length of 1,000 mm, this eyepiece provides approximately 67× magnification. The magnification is calculated by dividing the telescope’s focal length by that of the eyepiece.

Is it compatible with my telescope?
It uses a 1.25-inch mount. In a 2-inch eyepiece holder, a suitable adapter is required. The ability to focus also depends on the optical path of the accessories.

Can you observe things with glasses?
The advertised eye relief is 10 mm. Comfort when wearing glasses also depends on their shape and the position of the eye; trying them on is always better than relying on a universal guarantee.

Is the apparent field the field visible in the sky?
No. The apparent field of view of 50° describes the view through the eyepiece. The actual field of view depends on the telescope; the 12.6-mm field stop is the value to use to calculate it.
