The ToupTek GPM174M is a monochrome camera equipped with the Sony IMX249 sensor. It offers a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels with 5.86 µm pixels.
The GPM174M is designed for guiding and can be connected to an instrument with a 1.25-inch slip-on adapter or a compatible optical splitter. It features an AR window, a USB 2.0 Type-C interface, and an ST4 port.
The manufacturer specifies a connection to a 1.25-inch slip-on adapter, a compatible extension tube, or a suitable optical splitter. The AR-coated window protects the sensor while providing anti-reflective treatment. An integrated buffer supports image transfers. Despite the name GPM174M, the sensor documented for this part number is the Sony IMX249: it is important to use this exact model name when comparing cameras.
The monochrome sensor captures an image without direct color reproduction via a Bayer array. To create a color image, separate exposures are taken using appropriate filters, and the channels are then combined during processing. This approach allows you to select the recorded bands based on the subject. However, it requires that the filters and their mounts be included in the setup: the term “monochrome” does not mean that a set of filters is automatically included with the camera.
In autoguiding, the camera is used to track the star being monitored by the autoguiding software. The ST4 port and the USB connection serve different purposes: the former is used to control a compatible mount, while the USB connection is used to communicate with the computer. This distinction is important when setting up the wiring. The presence of an ST4 port does not turn the camera into a standalone system: be sure to have the appropriate software and connections for your setup.
Image resolution and pixel size address two different issues. The first refers to the grid recorded by the camera; the second describes the size of the sensor’s light-sensitive elements. To choose a configuration, you must therefore consider these factors along with the instrument’s focal length and the desired framing. High resolution is no substitute for proper focusing or a suitable optical setup.
Before installation, check your instrument’s connection, the available space in the optical train, and the software used for data acquisition. Mechanical compatibility and software compatibility are two separate checks. Choosing a housing or a protective window does not eliminate the need to verify the adapters required for the selected mounting configuration. The specifications presented here apply specifically to this model and not to the entire ToupTek product line.

Here are a few accessories we've selected for this model, depending on your needs.
GS PAPO guide scope, an alternative to an optical splitter. Select the focal length and AC or AR optics; check the mounting, focus, and sampling.
OAG-L for guidance, an alternative to a guide scope. Choose the M48, M54, or M68 mount; check the prism, its field of view, focus, and back focus.
GS100 for guidance, an alternative to the splitter. Choose AC or AR; check the mounting, focus, and sampling. For visible light, ToupTek recommends an anti-IR window or a suitable IR-cut filter.
