The ToupTek GPM662M is a monochrome guidance and imaging camera equipped with the Sony IMX662 sensor. It has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, with 2.9 µm pixels and a 1/2.8-inch sensor size.

It features an AR window, a CS mount, a USB 2.0 Type-C connection, and an ST4 port. The camera is available in Blue, Fjord Green, and Stellar Magenta finishes, both as a standalone camera and as a kit that includes an LP825 filter and a CS lens.

Setup and Use

The camera alone and the infrared kit are two different configurations listed on this product page. The kit includes the LP825 infrared filter and the CS lens; the camera alone does not include these two accessories. Each configuration is available in Blue, Fjord Green, or Stellar Magenta. The exterior color and configuration are two separate selections: first choose the desired contents, then select the housing finish.

The HCG and LCG modes, the hardware ROI function, and digital binning from 1×1 to 8×8 are among the documented capabilities. The manufacturer specifically mentions PHD2, SharpCap, FireCapture, and ASCOM for software integration. Basic accessories include a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, an ST4 cable, a 1.25-inch eyepiece adapter, and a 5-mm adapter ring. The kit’s CS-mount lens allows for a wide-field setup without a telescope.

The monochrome sensor captures an image without direct color reproduction via a Bayer array. To create a color image, separate exposures are taken using appropriate filters, and the channels are then combined during processing. This approach allows you to select the recorded bands based on the subject. However, it requires that the filters and their mounts be included in the setup: the term “monochrome” does not mean that a set of filters is automatically included with the camera.

In autoguiding, the camera is used to track the star being monitored by the autoguiding software. The ST4 port and the USB connection serve different purposes: the former is used to control a compatible mount, while the USB connection is used to communicate with the computer. This distinction is important when setting up the wiring. The presence of an ST4 port does not turn the camera into a standalone system: be sure to have the appropriate software and connections for your setup.

Image resolution and pixel size address two different issues. The first refers to the grid recorded by the camera; the second describes the size of the sensor’s light-sensitive elements. To choose a configuration, you must therefore consider these factors along with the instrument’s focal length and the desired framing. High resolution is no substitute for proper focusing or a suitable optical setup.

Before installation, check your instrument’s connection, the available space in the optical train, and the software used for data acquisition. Mechanical compatibility and software compatibility are two separate checks. Choosing a housing or a protective window does not eliminate the need to verify the adapters required for the selected mounting configuration. The specifications presented here apply specifically to this model and not to the entire ToupTek product line.
