This Lunt kit is designed to replace the O-rings in the Pressure Tuner system of the LS50THa solar telescope. It includes two red O-rings measuring 31.34 mm and some grease. This version is specifically designed for the LS50THa and differs from the kits available for other Lunt models.
The Pressure Tuner adjusts the H-alpha filtration by varying the air pressure inside the etalon cavity. Turning the knob moves a piston, and its seal maintains the setting. The LS50THa manual describes a gradual increase in resistance as the pressure rises. Solar details become visible at the correct setting and then fade as the pressure exceeds the desired position. The condition of the seals therefore plays a role in maintaining this pressure.
Lunt notes that aging seals can cause air leaks. It may then become necessary to tighten the control further than before, or the details obtained may become blurred after adjustment. These symptoms warrant checking the system rather than assuming a problem with the optics. Replacing the O-rings is part of the maintenance procedures described by the manufacturer; if the issues persist, Lunt recommends contacting their support team.
The contents of the kit should not be confused with the number of seals to be installed at the same time. The Lunt replacement manual specifies that the LS50THa piston has two grooves but normally contains only one seal in the rear groove. It warns that adding a second seal to the front groove makes it very difficult to screw the control in place. Therefore, you should follow the manual specific to the model and the instrument’s configuration.
The Lunt tutorial explains how to maintain the piston accessible via the Pressure Tuner control and how to apply a small amount of grease to the seals. This procedure applies only to the control assembly designed for this purpose. It does not involve disassembling the optical system or the collimator: the telescope manual warns that disassembly compromises the safety of the instrument and voids its warranty. Before any new observation, the filters must be properly installed, the blocking filter must be in place, and the instrument must be free of damage. If you have any doubts about the telescope’s assembly or condition, contact Lunt for advice before use.
