The DayStar ULF-70 is a universal, foldable solar filter designed for professional camera lenses, long focal length lenses, spotting scopes, and optical instruments of compatible sizes.

Its opening of 70 mm Suitable for instruments with an outer diameter between 65 and 89 mm. In particular, it is compatible with many camera lenses that accept a screw-on filter of 77 mm, provided that the outer diameter
the lens barrel remains within the specified range.

For instruments with an outer diameter smaller than the filter's natural width, the tabs can be folded inward to improve the fit around the lens or optical tube.

To observe and photograph the Sun

When properly assembled and mounted in front of the instrument, the ULF-70 allows you to observe or photograph the Sun with an appearance orange, bright, and high-contrast. Large sunspots may also be visible when they appear on the Sun's surface.

It offers a practical solution for photographing a solar eclipse, tracking large sunspots, or taking regular images of the solar disk.

Start with the equipment you already have

Lightweight and economical, the ULF-70 allows you to add white-light solar observation to a compatible instrument. You can track large sunspots from one day to the next or take a series of photographs of the solar disk. Measure the outer diameter of your equipment and fully assemble the filter before use.

Thousand Oaks solar film, ND 5 density

The filter is equipped with a solar film Thousand Oaks Optical. This manufacturer is among the suppliers of solar filters recognized by the American Astronomical Society.

The film has high optical density ND 5 and rejects 99.999 % of solar radiation. It meets the transmission requirements
of the standard ISO 12312-2:2015 regarding filters intended for direct observation of the Sun.

Regulatory clarification: The ISO 12312-2 standard was developed for eyewear such as sunglasses. The ULF-70 is an integrated filter accessory intended to be mounted in front of a camera, lens, spotting scope, binoculars, or telescope. It must not be used as a pair of glasses or held directly in front of the eyes.

Recommended Compatibility

The ULF-70 can be used with, among other things:

• professional camera lenses with a compatible diameter; ;
• many lenses that accept a 77-mm screw-in filter; ;

• small, compatible eyeglasses and telescopes.

Please note: A thread size of 77 mm does not automatically guarantee compatibility. Always measure the outer diameter of the part of the lens where the tabs will be installed. It must be between 65 and 89 mm.

Essential Safety Guidelines

• Never look directly at the Sun without special solar protection designed for that purpose.
• Do not use the filter if the film is torn, punctured, scratched, or damaged.
• Never use the product when it is flat, unfolded, or assembled incorrectly.
• Carefully inspect the film before each observation or photography session.
• Make sure the filter completely covers the opening of the lens or instrument.
• No part of the solar disk should be able to pass around the filter.
• Check that the mount is secure before pointing the instrument at the Sun.
• Check that the filter is secure before tilting the lens or spotting scope downward.
• Never remove the filter while the instrument is pointed at the Sun.
• Avoid any movement or contact that could accidentally dislodge the filter.
• Never leave installed solar equipment unattended.
• Children and inexperienced users must remain under the constant supervision of a competent adult.
• This product is not a pair of eclipse glasses and should never be used directly in front of the eyes.
