The PrimaLuceLab ESATTO 3-inch is a motorized eyepiece holder with built-in electronics designed for photographic setups that require a large aperture and high load capacity.
The Crayford mechanism features twenty-eight bearings and a travel of twenty-five millimeters. Its rated load capacity is eight kilograms, which makes it possible to use cameras paired with a filter wheel or an optical splitter, provided that the entire driven assembly is taken into account.
The resolution of 0.04 micrometers per step refers to the focus increment published by PrimaLuceLab. It should not be confused with a guaranteed absolute precision for the entire optical system. The rigidity of the interfaces and the adjustment of other components must still be verified during integration.
The thickness is 58 mm, or 77 mm with the internal flange. These two values correspond to distinct mechanical configurations and are not interchangeable. Sufficient space must be provided in the instrument’s rear mounting while maintaining the travel required to achieve focus.
The camera-side output has an M81 × 1 male thread. Optional photographic adapters with a stop ring allow you to connect different cameras and maintain their framing angle. The choice of ring depends on the actual thread size of the accessory being attached; it is not sufficient to rely solely on the nominal diameter of the eyepiece holder.
PrimaLuceLab also offers adapters for connecting the ESATTO to various telescopes. The manufacturer specifically lists large refractors, Ritchey-Chrétien, and Cassegrain telescopes among its applications. However, these categories do not guarantee that every model can be connected directly without an appropriate interface.
The USB-C port connects to an EAGLE or a Windows computer. The USB cable listed as included allows connection to the computer's USB port. ASCOM drivers provide access to control functions in compatible software, while PLAY offers an alternative control interface.
Wi-Fi and the Virtual HandPad also allow you to adjust the focus from a phone or tablet. This feature is useful for visual observation when a data acquisition computer isn’t needed. It does not turn the eyepiece holder into a universal accessory for all telescope mechanisms.
The ARCO port accepts a compatible rotator via a short connector, allowing for camera angle adjustment or de-rotation depending on the configuration. ARCO remains an optional accessory for this model. The official, verified specifications on the webpage confirm an ESATTO model PLLEST3, not a package that includes a rotator or universal camera adapters.
