The Skywatcher Explorer 130 EQ2 is a recognized and award-winning telescope, particularly appreciated by serious beginners and more experienced amateurs alike. Thanks to its excellent value for money and well-balanced performance, it's an ideal choice for discovering and deepening your observation of the night sky.
With its 130 mm diameter and precise equatorial mount, this telescope offers a stable, comfortable observing experience rich in discovery.
The Explorer 130 is equipped with a primary mirror of 130 mm, light-gathering capacity 30 % larger than a 114 mm model. This aperture enables us to capture more light and observe fainter objects in greater detail.
Its 900 mm (f/6.92) offers an excellent compromise between magnification and field of view, making it particularly versatile. It is perfectly suited to observing :
With a theoretical maximum magnification of x260, This telescope enables you to explore a wide variety of celestial objects in depth, while maintaining good image quality.
The telescope is mounted on a EQ2 equatorial mount, designed to facilitate the tracking of celestial objects. Once aligned with the celestial pole, it compensates for the Earth's rotation and keeps the observed object in the field of view.
Visit slow motion commands on the right ascension (RA) and declination (DEC) axes enable smooth, precise adjustment, particularly useful when observing at high magnification.
This mount is an excellent introduction to advanced observation techniques and manual tracking of celestial objects.
The Skywatcher Explorer 130 EQ2 comes with a set of essential accessories:
These accessories provide several useful magnifications: x36, x72, x90 and x180, suitable for different types of observation without compromising image quality.
The telescope is mounted on a adjustable aluminium tripod, The integrated accessory tray keeps eyepieces within easy reach during observation sessions. The integrated accessory tray keeps eyepieces within easy reach during observation sessions.
This model is ideal for both regular home use and outdoor observation.
The Explorer 130 EQ2 is an upgradeable instrument for rapid progress in astronomy. Its powerful optics and equatorial mount provide a solid foundation for developing your skills and exploring more of the night sky.
It is also an excellent stepping stone before moving on to more advanced or motorized equipment.
The Skywatcher Explorer 130 EQ2 is a reliable, high-performance and versatile telescope, perfectly suited to ambitious novice astronomers. Thanks to its good aperture, comprehensive accessories and equatorial mount, it lets you take full advantage of the wonders of the night sky while developing your astronomical observation skills.
The Moon in detail, the planets (Jupiter’s bands and moons, Saturn’s rings), and, under a dark sky, the brightest star clusters and nebulae, such as the Orion Nebula. Its maximum useful magnification is approximately 260× (2 × the diameter in mm); in practice, atmospheric turbulence often makes it necessary to stay below this limit.
Two eyepieces are included: 25 mm and 10 mm. With a focal length of 900 mm, they provide 36× and 90× magnification. To calculate the magnification of an eyepiece, divide the telescope’s focal length by the eyepiece’s focal length.
It can still be transported by car: the tube weighs about 4.2 kg and the mount weighs about 7 kg.
Yes, just like any Newtonian telescope. A quick check every now and then is enough, especially after transporting it. With a collimation laser, it’s quick and easy. At f/6.9, it’s fairly forgiving: a slight misalignment is hardly noticeable. The Sky-Watcher Collimation Guide (EN) explains the procedure.
With a smartphone adapter, you can take souvenir photos of the Moon and the planets—but that's all. Deep-sky photography isn't possible: the mount doesn't track the sky's movement.
