WandererAstro M54 female camera-side adapter for ETA M54

The WandererAstro M54 female camera-side adapter allows you to thread an accessory onto the Wanderer ETA M54. It is designed for setups in which the camera, filter wheel, or optical splitter must be screwed onto the back of the tilt corrector. The adapter is designed for the ETA M54: the device shown in the illustrations is sold separately.

A threaded connection on the camera side

The ETA is originally designed for screw mounting on the camera side. This adapter attaches to that side and provides an M54 female connector for equipment with the corresponding male thread. It thus allows for a screw connection to a camera, a filter wheel, or an optical splitter, depending on the interfaces available on the devices. Check the diameter and pitch of your equipment’s threads before selecting the mounting option.

The side facing the telescope already has an M54 female thread integrated into the ETA. The manufacturer specifies that this integrated thread is intended solely for the telescope side and must not be used to attach equipment on the camera side, as doing so may damage the device. With the dedicated adapter attached, the ETA has an M54 female thread on each of its two sides.

Position in the optical train

The manual states that the ETA assembly and adapter occupy 10 mm of back focus distance. By comparison, the ETA directly screwed onto a camera body occupies 5 mm. You must therefore take the chosen configuration into account when setting up the optical train and verify the distance required by your instrument and its accessories. The 10-mm value refers to the assembly with the adapter, not the length of the adapter alone.

For the threaded connection, WandererAstro recommends using a male M54 ring with a thread length of no more than 4 mm. A longer thread may damage the ETA. Before assembly, also check that there is sufficient space for the intended accessories and that each connector can be installed without restriction.

Compatibility and Content

The manufacturer intends the ETA to be mounted in front of a camera, a filter wheel, or an optical splitter, and not in front of a corrector, a reducer, or a heavy eyepiece holder. The total load behind the ETA must not exceed 3 kg. These limits apply to the ETA itself and must be observed even when this adapter is used. The camera, filter wheel, optical splitter, and ETA shown are not included with the adapter.
