The WandererBox Plus V3 is a power controller and USB hub designed for astrophotography setups. It combines DC outputs, USB ports, and a heating element controller in a compact enclosure. When mounted on the instrument, it allows you to connect multiple pieces of equipment close to where they are used and then control the compatible outputs from your computer.
The enclosure is powered by an external 12-volt power supply. One output remains continuously powered and is directly connected to the input. Another regulated output allows you to adjust the voltage and turn the power to the connected equipment on or off. This feature can be used, for example, to power a camera when its operating voltage is compatible with the selected setting.
An output can drive a heating resistor via power modulation or serve as a switchable output. Three other outputs provide a group-switchable power supply. Before connecting, check the voltage, connector, and power consumption of each device, as well as the input and output limits. The limits specified for port groups apply to the devices connected to those groups, not to each outlet individually.
The Plus V3 has two USB 3.1 ports and three USB 2.0 ports. The USB 3.1 ports can be used to connect a camera that requires fast data transfer; the USB 2.0 ports can be used to connect equipment such as a mount or a WandererCover panel. The USB ports can be enabled or disabled together. They share a power supply, so you must take into account the total power consumption of the connected devices.
The manufacturer provides a temperature and humidity sensor as well as a temperature probe. Manual adjustment allows you to select the heating element’s power setting. The automatic modes allow you to target a specific temperature or maintain a deviation from the dew point. The constant-temperature mode uses the probe; the dew point-based mode uses both the probe and the ambient sensor. When one of these automatic modes is active, the corresponding output cannot be adjusted manually.
The WandererEmpire software allows you to control the outputs and view voltage, current, temperature, and humidity readings. The manual also describes how to control the system from N.I.N.A. or S.G.P. after connecting the ASCOM driver. Current readings are approximate and may be affected by environmental conditions.
The housing has threaded holes on its base for mounting it to a suitable structure. The manufacturer also offers separate mounting brackets. To prepare for installation, ensure you have a suitable external power supply and check the power requirements of the devices you plan to connect. The heating element and the equipment shown are not included.
