Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 HEQ5-R PRO GoTo: high-end telescope with ultra-precise mount

Visit Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 HEQ5-R PRO GoTo is a high-performance achromatic refractor designed for demanding astronomers who want to combine optical quality, extreme stability and advanced automation. This complete configuration combines powerful 120 mm optics with the renowned HEQ5 PRO mount, renowned for its precision and robustness, ideal for visual observation and astrophotography.

With its goal of 120 mm diameter, this telescope captures up to 38 % more light than a 102 mm model, The result is brighter, more detailed, higher-contrast images. Its 1000 mm and its focal ratio of f/8,33 offer an excellent compromise between resolution and brightness, ideal for observing the Moon, planets and many deep-sky objects.

High-precision achromatic optics

The Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 is based on an achromatic doublet optical design that effectively reduces chromatic aberrations. This technology ensures more precise convergence of different wavelengths, delivering a sharp, faithful image rich in detail.

The lens benefits from Multi-Coated, The result is bright, high-contrast images, particularly suitable for observing planetary and lunar surfaces. The result is bright, high-contrast images, particularly suited to the observation of planetary and lunar surfaces.

Thanks to its performance close to the diffraction limit, this telescope makes full use of its diameter, offering outstanding image quality for detailed observations at high magnification.

Ideal performance for high magnification

The telescope is supplied with two eyepieces of 26 mm and 10 mm, which enables magnifications of x40 and x100. Its theoretical maximum capacity is x240, ideal for fine observation of lunar craters, Jupiter's cloud bands or Saturn's rings.

The f/8.33 focal ratio guarantees excellent image stability, even at high magnification, while maintaining a good level of brightness. This makes it a versatile instrument, suitable for many types of observation.

HEQ5-R PRO SynScan GoTo mount: extreme precision and automatic tracking

The real advantage of this configuration lies in its HEQ5-R PRO SynScan GoTo mount, a motorized equatorial mount renowned for its precision and load-bearing capacity. Equipped with double-axis stepper motors, It provides smooth, extremely precise tracking of celestial objects.

The GoTo system automatically points thousands of celestial objects in a matter of seconds. Once aligned, the mount follows the objects by compensating for the Earth's rotation, offering optimal observing comfort and facilitating prolonged sessions.

The integrated polar finder mount enables precise positioning, essential for tracking and astrophotography.

The mount requires a power supply 12V DC

The HEQ5 PRO is particularly well-suited to astrophotography, thanks to its stability and tracking precision, for detailed images of the deep sky.

Robust, versatile design

The Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 HEQ5 PRO is equipped with a Dual-Fit 1.25”/2” eyepiece holder”, The lens is compatible with a wide range of eyepieces and accessories. The 2” (50.8 mm) angled return allows comfortable observation and the use of wide-field eyepieces.

The researcher 9×50 facilitates the initial location of celestial objects, effectively complementing the GoTo system. The direct connection for SLR cameras makes it easy to capture images of the Moon and planets.

The tripod in 1.75” stainless steel” ensures exceptional stability, limiting vibrations and guaranteeing an optimal viewing experience. The integrated accessory tray keeps your equipment organized.

Astrophotography and scalability

Thanks to the precision of the HEQ5 PRO mount and the optical quality of the scope, this configuration is perfectly suited to astrophotography. It allows you to capture detailed images of the solar system and gradually explore the deep sky.

Its compatibility with a wide range of accessories and its sturdiness make it an upgradeable instrument, capable of accompanying users as they progress in astronomy.

Why choose the Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 HEQ5-R PRO SynScan GoTo?

The Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 120 HEQ5 PRO SynScan GoTo is a complete solution for astronomers wishing to take their skills to the next level. It combines high-performance optics, an extremely precise mount and an intuitive GoTo system.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What can you see with the Sky-Watcher Evostar 120?

The Sky-Watcher Evostar 120 is a 120-mm achromatic refractor with a focal length of 1,000 mm (f/8.3), an ideal visual observation instrument for beginners. It reveals the Moon with exceptional sharpness, Jupiter’s bands and Great Red Spot, Saturn’s Cassini Division, double stars, and the largest deep-sky objects: the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, globular clusters such as M13, and large open clusters.

Is this a good instrument for beginners?

Yes. Like any telescope, it is collimated at the factory and requires no optical adjustments: just set it up, let the tube sit outside for a few minutes, and start observing. The enclosed tube stays clean, and maintenance is minimal. Once aligned with two or three stars, the GoTo mount points to and tracks objects for you.

Achromatic or Maksutov Telescope: Which One Should You Choose?

For a comparable diameter, an achromatic telescope is generally less expensive than a Maksutov, warms up faster, and has no central obstruction, which preserves contrast. The Maksutov is more compact for a longer focal length; the refractor, with its 1,000 mm focal length, remains more versatile for observing both planets and large deep-sky objects.

Which eyepieces are included, and what are their magnifications?

Included eyepieces: 26 mm (38×) and 10 mm (100×). The magnification is calculated by dividing the telescope’s focal length (1,000 mm) by that of the eyepiece. To explore the Moon and the planets in greater detail, a 6-mm eyepiece (167×) is a good addition to the kit; the maximum useful magnification is around 240×.

Can you do astrophotography with this telescope?

That’s not what it’s designed for. An achromatic objective lens leaves a purple halo around stars and bright objects: in astrophotography, this flaw is very noticeable. For deep-sky photography, an apochromatic telescope is the right tool. The Sky-Watcher Evostar 120 remains, above all, an excellent observational instrument. The only somewhat specialized exception is that a large achromatic refractor like this one can be used with a DayStar Quark filter to observe and photograph the Sun in H-alpha, with a suitable energy-rejection filter (ERF) attached to the front.

How good is the HEQ5-R Pro mount included in this kit?

Astrophotography load capacity: 15 kg. With this telescope tube, this margin ensures a stable image even at high magnifications. The HEQ5-R Pro is motorized on both axes, featuring GoTo SynScan, Wi-Fi control via smartphone, and an ST-4 autoguiding port: it points to and tracks objects for you. If you decide to take up astrophotography later on, it can accommodate a dedicated apochromatic refractor.

Is food provided?

No. The HEQ5-R Pro SynScan mount does not come with a power supply. It requires 9 to 12.6 V DC, 3 A. For home use, we recommend the'Pegasus Astro 12 V 10 A power supply (2.1 mm plug) : regulated voltage, high current reserve, and it can later power a hub for the camera and the anti-fog resistors.

What's in the box?

Evostar 120/1000 Tube, 26 mm and 10 mm Eyepieces (1.25″), 2″ right-angle mirror, 9×50 finder scope, HEQ5-R Pro SynScan GoTo mount, 1.75″ stainless steel tripod with accessory plate.
