The Sky-Watcher SKYMAX-150 Pro + EQ5 Pro SynScan is a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope designed for demanding amateur astronomers who want to combine the following features high optical performance, tracking precision and advanced automation. Thanks to its 150 mm and its long focal length, it is the ideal instrument for detailed observation of the Moon, planets and double stars, while maintaining its performance on certain bright deep-sky objects.
With a focal length of 1800 mm (f/12), This telescope is perfectly suited to high-magnification observations. It can reach a magnification of x64 with the eyepiece supplied, and can reach a theoretical maximum magnification of x450 under the right conditions. This level of performance makes it possible to accurately observe details of lunar craters, Saturn's rings, the phases of Venus or Jupiter's cloud bands.
The SKYMAX-150 is based on an optical design renowned for its exceptional image quality. Its closed system limits internal turbulence and effectively protects optics from dust. The primary and secondary mirrors are treated with Radiant™ Aluminum Quartz (RAQ™)guaranteeing reflectivity up to 94%. This treatment improves light transmission and ensures bright, high-contrast, sharp images.
The primary mirror displacement focusing system enables fine, gradual adjustment, essential for obtaining perfect sharpness when observing at high magnification.
The telescope is supplied with the EQ5 Pro SynScan™ Go-To equatorial mount, a motorized solution that makes skywatching a whole lot easier. Thanks to its control panel, you can automatically point at thousands of celestial objects without having to search for them manually.
Once aligned using the integrated polar viewfinder, the frame provides precise monitoring by compensating for the Earth's rotation. This feature keeps the object under observation centered in the field, considerably improving viewing comfort and opening the door to the’astrophotography.
Operating with a power supply 12V DC, This mount is ideal for use both in the field and at home. It offers an excellent compromise between performance, ease of use and upgradability.
The SKYMAX-150 is supplied with a 2” 28 mm eyepiece, to obtain an initial magnification of x64. Le 2” (50.8 mm) angled return ensures optimum viewing comfort, especially when the telescope is oriented towards the zenith.
The 9×50 optical finder with support makes it easy to spot objects in the sky, while the overall quality of the accessories ensures a smooth, pleasant experience right from the outset.
The structure is based on a 1.75” stainless steel tripod”, The integrated accessory tray keeps your equipment within easy reach during your observation sessions. The integrated accessory tray keeps your equipment close at hand during your observation sessions.
The Sky-Watcher SKYMAX-150 Pro + EQ5 Pro SynScan is an excellent choice for astronomers looking to take things to the next level. It combines optical power, mechanical precision and advanced automation, This is a comfortable, high-performance observing experience. Versatile and upgradeable, it lets you explore the sky with ease and take astrophotography seriously.
The Moon in great detail, the planets (Jupiter’s bands, Saturn’s rings, Venus’s phases), and double stars: its long focal length naturally provides high magnification. Its 150-mm diameter also allows for viewing some bright clusters and nebulae. Its maximum useful magnification is approximately 300× (2 × the diameter in mm); in practice, atmospheric turbulence often limits observation to lower magnifications.
Included eyepiece: 28 mm. With a focal length of 1,800 mm, it provides 64× magnification. To calculate the magnification of an eyepiece, divide the telescope's focal length by the eyepiece's focal length.
The tube weighs about 5.6 kg and is about 40 cm long; the mount weighs about 5.8 kg; and the tripod weighs about 5.6 kg.
No, practically never: a Maksutov's optics are factory-adjusted and remain stable, which is one of its major advantages for beginners. To check, a star test is all it takes: point the telescope at a bright star, defocus it slightly, and the rings should be perfectly concentric.
Yes: The motorized equatorial mount tracks the movement of the sky, allowing for long exposures of the Moon, the planets, and bright deep-sky objects.
150 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, 9×50 finder scope, 2″ right-angle mirror, 28 mm LET eyepiece (2″), 45 mm dovetail.
No. The Sky-Watcher EQ5 Pro SynScan mount does not come with a power supply. Required power supply: 12 V DC (11 to 15 V), 2 A, positive center. For home use, we recommend the'Pegasus Astro 12 V 10 A power supply with a 5.5 × 2.1 mm plug : regulated 12.5 V output, high current reserve, and it will later be able to power a Pegasus hub (Pocket Powerbox) for the camera and the anti-fog heating elements.
Here are a few accessories we've selected for this model, depending on your needs.
