Visit Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ is a telescope designed for beginners who want to explore the night sky with ease and precision. Thanks to its innovative integration with your smartphone, it turns stargazing into an intuitive and rewarding experience.
Equipped with StarSense Explorer, this telescope uses your smartphone to analyze the sky in real time. The dedicated app identifies celestial objects visible from your location and guides you step by step to locate them. Simply place your phone in the designated holder, launch the app, and follow the on-screen arrows to point your telescope at targets such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, or the Orion Nebula.
The StarSense Explorer app is compatible with most modern smartphones, including the iPhone 6 and later models, as well as Android devices running Android 7.1.2 or later.
In short, the Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ is a user-friendly and innovative telescope, ideal for those who want to discover the wonders of the night sky without any hassle. Its integration with your smartphone offers you a guided and immersive viewing experience, making astronomy accessible to everyone.
The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ is an 80-mm achromatic refractor with a focal length of 900 mm (f/11.2), an ideal visual observation instrument for beginners. It reveals the craters and seas of the Moon, Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s bands and its four moons, the phases of Venus, and—among the largest deep-sky objects—the Pleiades, the Double Cluster in Perseus, and the Orion Nebula. Its long focal ratio minimizes chromatic aberration, making it particularly well-suited for observing the Moon and the planets.
Yes. Like any telescope, it is factory-aligned and requires no optical adjustments: simply set it up, leave the tube out in the open air for a few minutes, and start observing. The enclosed tube stays clean, and maintenance is minimal. The StarSense Explorer app uses your smartphone to tell you where to point: the mount is moved by hand, without a motor or power source.
For a comparable aperture, an achromatic telescope is generally less expensive than a Maksutov, warms up faster, and has no central obstruction, which preserves contrast. The Maksutov is more compact for a longer focal length; the refractor, with its 900 mm focal length, remains more versatile for observing both planets and large deep-sky objects.
Included eyepieces: 25 mm (36×) and 10 mm (90×). The magnification is calculated by dividing the telescope’s focal length (900 mm) by that of the eyepiece. To explore the Moon and planets in greater detail, an eyepiece of approximately 8 mm (112×) is a good addition to the kit; the maximum useful magnification is around 160×. The included 2× Barlow lens doubles each magnification.
That’s not what it’s designed for. The achromatic objective lens leaves a purple halo around stars and bright objects: in astrophotography, this flaw is very noticeable. For deep-sky photography, an apochromatic telescope is the right choice. The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ remains, above all, an excellent observation instrument.
80/900 tube, 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces, 2× Barlow lens, 90° erecting prism, StarPointer red-dot finder, StarSense Explorer smartphone mount, altazimuth mount and tripod (pre-assembled), Accessory tray.
Yes, it's easy to transport by car: the tube weighs about 2.5 kg and is about 96.5 cm long.
