Askar's 52mm SD Guide Scope is a top-of-the-range guide scope, designed to offer superior precision and image quality thanks to the use of advanced optical quality SD glass. This model is ideal for astrophotographers looking for high-performance equipment capable of delivering outstanding results, even under difficult observing conditions.
Askar's 52mm SD Guide Scope is a preferred choice for serious and demanding astrophotographers, looking for a combination of precision, versatility and optical quality. This model meets the highest standards to guarantee outstanding results with every observation.
This guide scope is a 52-mm-aperture ED doublet with a focal length of 250 mm (f/4.8). Mounted in parallel with the main instrument alongside a guide camera, it is used for autoguiding: the software (PHD2, for example) tracks a star and continuously corrects the mount’s position during your exposures. With a focal length of 250 mm, it comfortably guides instruments with focal lengths up to approximately 1,250 mm.
A guiding camera with small pixels (2.9 µm, such as models with IMX462 or IMX290 sensors) provides approximately 2.4″ per pixel with its 250 mm focal length—sufficient accuracy to guide most astrophotography scopes.
Yes, its ED doublet makes it a small wide-angle lens: when used with a small-sensor color camera, it can capture large sections of the Milky Way and major nebular complexes. Its primary function, however, remains guiding.
About 0.7 kg for the tube, to be added to the weight of the main instrument to balance the mount.
