Explore the universe with the NexStar 4SE, Celestron's iconic telescope, ideal for beginners and advanced observers alike. With its compact design, modern features and high-performance optics, this telescope offers an unforgettable observing experience at an affordable price.
Inspired by Celestron's famous "orange tube" telescopes of the 1970s, the NexStar 4SE combines the best of this heritage with modern technologies. True to the vision of its founder, Tom Johnson, it embodies superior optics at an accessible price, making astronomy exciting and affordable for everyone.
The NexStar 4SE is more than just a telescope: it's your passport to the universe, whether you're a beginner or an experienced amateur astronomer. Explore the wonders of the cosmos with a reliable, high-performance companion that grows with you over the years.
The Moon in great detail, the planets (Jupiter’s bands, Saturn’s rings, Venus’s phases), and double stars: its long focal length naturally provides high magnification. For deep-sky observing, it is limited to the brightest clusters and objects. Its maximum useful magnification is approximately 204× (2 × the diameter in mm); in practice, atmospheric turbulence often requires staying below this limit.
Included eyepiece: 25 mm. With a focal length of 1,325 mm, it provides 53× magnification. To calculate the magnification of an eyepiece, divide the telescope's focal length by the eyepiece's focal length.
It can still be transported by car: the tube weighs about 2.7 kg and is about 34.3 cm long, and the mount weighs about 3.2 kg (plus 4.54 kg for the tripod).
No, practically never: a Maksutov's optics are factory-adjusted and remain stable, which is one of its major advantages for beginners. To check, a star test is all it takes: point the telescope at a bright star, defocus it slightly, and the rings should be perfectly concentric.
The motorized mount tracks objects: this is ideal for filming the Moon and the planets with a smartphone or a small planetary camera, and the planets already appear large thanks to the 1,325 mm focal length. Long exposures of the deep sky remain limited, since an azimuth mount causes the field of view to rotate.
Optical tube, single-arm mount and tripod, accessory plate, StarPointer red-dot finder, integrated equatorial mount, NexStar+ hand controller, 25 mm eyepiece.
Yes. The kit includes a 12-volt Powertank battery, which powers the NexStar SE mount (12 V DC, 750 mA, positive center) both in the field and at home.
