The SESTO SENSO 3 SC motorizes the internal focusing of Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes and certain mirror-shift instruments. It combines a motor, electronics, and an encoder in a 440-gram housing. The Direct Pulley Clamp (DPC) drive system uses a pulley connection and retains the ability to adjust the focus manually.

The included adapters are compatible with Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes ranging from 6 to 14 inches, 8-, 11-, and 14-inch EdgeHD models, 8- to 14-inch RASA models, and the SkyWatcher MAK180PRO. The Celestron 9.25-inch EdgeHD is explicitly excluded. The “SC” in the name refers to this version for internal focusing; it should not be confused with the other SESTO SENSO 3 motors designed for external eyepiece holders.

The motor provides up to two million steps. The encoder tracks the rotation of the axis—even during manual adjustment—to maintain the control position. However, this measurement does not detect movements of the mirror or internal mechanical play within the telescope. Therefore, it does not guarantee that the optical focus will remain unchanged if the mirror tilts.

Automatic Calibration mode automatically detects the minimum and maximum stroke positions of the SC mechanism. It facilitates remote calibration without requiring any intervention on the tube. When enabled, the Automatic Position Recovery feature returns the focus to its previous position after a movement is detected. Its delay is adjustable from 0 to 20 seconds, particularly for public installations where the focus ring may be turned unintentionally.

USB-C connects the motor to an EAGLE or a Windows 10/11 PC. PLAY enables movement and autofocus; ASCOM drivers make the device accessible to compatible astronomy software. The built-in Wi-Fi provides access to the Virtual HandPad via a browser on a smartphone or tablet. This mobile control can be used simultaneously with a computer connection.

The power input requires 12 V with a 5.5/2.5 mm positive-center connector. An ARCO port transmits power and control signals to an optional ARCO rotator via a single connection. A thermal probe input accommodates the optional sensor for focus compensation after the relationship between temperature and position has been characterized. The probe and rotator are not included in the package contents.

DARK mode allows you to dim or turn off the LEDs. When used with an EAGLE, GHOST mode enables control without a USB cable and can provide an alternative communication path if the USB connection is lost. These features depend on the corresponding software and hardware environment.

The included items are the SESTO SENSO 3 SC motor, its adapters, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a 12V cable with a cigarette lighter plug, hex wrenches for mounting, and a quick installation guide.
