«I've used a lot of telescopes; some good, some mediocre, and some bad. For me, the Sky-Watcher range is really excellent, suitable for all enthusiasts - and at affordable prices! Excellent value for money. Use them and enjoy.»
The Sky-Watcher Evostar 150/1200 OTA is a 150 mm diameter achromatic refractor telescope, offering outstanding image quality for planetary, lunar and bright deep-sky observation. Built around a air-spaced doublet, It offers excellent chromatic aberration control and high optical precision. This tube is ideal for demanding visual astronomers in search of fine detail and optimum contrast.
With its 150 mm lens and its 1200 mm long focal length (f/8), This refractor allows you to increase magnifications while maintaining a sharp, high-contrast image. It is particularly recommended for observing planets, the Moon and double stars, but also performs well on open clusters, globular clusters and bright nebulae.
| Eyepieces | 10 mm and 25 mm (with a 1.25-inch nut) |
| Researcher | 9×50 optical scope on a mount |
| Tube rings | Yes, included |
| Mounting bar | Vixen-type dovetail |
| Focuser | 2-inch rack rail with 1.25-inch adapter |
Sky-Watcher's Evostar series refractors are based on an innovative achromatic lenses separated by air, This is far superior to a simple bonded doublet. This enables better chromatic correction, reducing color fringing and increasing image contrast. You benefit from sharp, natural and pleasant visual observations.
The carefully crafted Evostar 150 optical tube can be used with a variety of compatible equatorial or azimuthal mounts. Its generous diameter means it can also be used for planetary imaging with a suitable camera. It provides a solid base from which to develop your astronomical practice.
The Sky-Watcher Evostar 150/1200 OTA is one of the best choices for those who want a powerful, reliable telescope without compromising on optical quality. Endorsed by the world's leading amateur astronomers, it is a benchmark instrument for visual enthusiasts in search of performance and precision.

The Sky-Watcher Evostar-150 is a 150-mm achromatic refractor with a focal length of 1,200 mm (f/8), an ideal visual observation instrument for beginners. It reveals the Moon with exceptional sharpness, Jupiter’s bands and Great Red Spot, Saturn’s Cassini Division, double stars, and the largest deep-sky objects: the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, globular clusters such as M13, and large open clusters.
Yes. Like any telescope, it is collimated at the factory and requires no optical adjustments: simply set it up, leave the tube exposed to the open air for a few minutes, and start observing. The enclosed tube stays clean, and maintenance is minimal.
For a comparable diameter, an achromatic telescope is generally less expensive than a Maksutov, warms up faster, and has no central obstruction, which preserves contrast. The Maksutov is more compact for a longer focal length; the refractor, with its 1,200 mm focal length, remains more versatile for observing both planets and large deep-sky objects.
Included eyepieces: 25 mm (48×) and 10 mm (120×). The magnification is calculated by dividing the telescope’s focal length (1200 mm) by that of the eyepiece. To explore the Moon and the planets in greater detail, a 5-mm eyepiece (240×) is a good addition to the kit; the maximum useful magnification is around 300×.
That’s not what it’s designed for. The achromatic objective lens leaves a purple halo around stars and bright objects: in astrophotography, this flaw is very noticeable. For deep-sky photography, an apochromatic telescope is the right tool. The Sky-Watcher Evostar-150 remains, above all, an excellent observational instrument. The only somewhat specialized exception is that a large achromatic telescope like this one can be used with a DayStar Quark filter to observe and photograph the Sun in H-alpha, with a suitable energy-rejection filter (ERF) attached to the front.
Yes, it's easy to transport by car: the tube weighs about 6.7 kg.
