Product description

Sky-Watcher Explorer 150PDS with EQ3-2 mount - Newton telescope optimized for astrophotography

A complete setup for a serious start in astrophotography and celestial observation

The Sky-Watcher Explorer 150PDS on EQ3-2 equatorial mount combines an excellent 150 mm parabolic mirror with optimized mechanics
for in-focus astrophotography. Heir to the Explorer-150P Black Diamondoffers two major improvements:

  • 2-inch Crayford Eyepiece Holder with 10:1 Gear Ratio for fine focusing, essential for imaging.
  • Shortened tube allowing direct focusing with cameras, with no need for modification.

For optimum rendering of stars right up to the edge of the field, combine this tube with the Sky-Watcher coma corrector (reference 20233).
This combination maximizes performance in both visual observation and astrophotography.

Parabolic mirrors: exceptional contrast

The high-precision parabolic mirror corrects spherical aberrations typical of short-throw telescopes
equipped with spherical mirrors. Each beam of light is focused at exactly the same point, guaranteeing images of the same quality.
sharp, contrasting and full of detail.

An excellent telescope for progressing in astrophotography and visuals

Thanks to its large 150 mm aperture and fast f/5 focal ratio, the Sky-Watcher Explorer 150PDS offers
an excellent compromise between power, field of vision and portability. Mounted on a EQ3-2 stable and scalable,
it's a first-rate choice for amateur astrophotographers looking for a reliable, upgradeable, high-performance package.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What can you see with the Sky-Watcher Explorer-150PDS?

With a 150 mm aperture at f/5 and a focal length of 750 mm, it is primarily an astrophotography telescope: when used with a camera, it is designed to photograph nebulae, galaxies, and clusters, offering a good balance between field of view and detail.

Which eyepieces are included, and what are their magnifications?

Included eyepiece: 28 mm. With a focal length of 750 mm, it provides 27× magnification. To calculate the magnification of an eyepiece, divide the telescope's focal length by the eyepiece's focal length.

Is it easy to carry?

It can still be transported by car: the tube weighs about 5 kg and the mount weighs about 13 kg.

Should we aim it at him?

Yes, and with care: in astrophotography, an f/5 open-aperture Newtonian telescope requires precise collimation. A collimation laser simplifies the adjustment process. The Sky-Watcher Collimation Guide (EN) explains the procedure.

Can we take pictures?

With a smartphone adapter, you can take souvenir photos of the Moon and the planets—but that's all. Deep-sky photography isn't possible: the mount doesn't track the sky's movement.

What's in the box?

150 mm Newtonian telescope, 6×30 finder scope, 2″ eyepiece holder with 10:1 reduction and 1.25″ adapter, 28 mm LET eyepiece (2″), EQ3-2 equatorial mount, aluminum tripod with accessory plate, counterweight.
