Monochrome astronomical camera for astronomical imaging and compatible mounts.
The monochrome version captures light without a color matrix. To create a color image, plan to take images with the appropriate filters and combine them during processing. It also allows you to work with narrowband filters depending on the target. For short-exposure acquisitions, the effective frame rate depends on the readout mode, the selected area, and the actual data throughput of the computer. Pixel size must be considered in relation to the focal length and turbulence conditions. Before assembly, check the thread, the distance between the sensor and the adapter, and the space occupied by the filters or the optical splitter. The sensor alone does not determine the final field of view: the instrument, the focal length, and any reducers also play a role. Take your calibration images using settings consistent with those used for observations. An astronomical camera provides no protection for solar observation: any use on the Sun requires a filter specifically designed for the instrument and installed correctly.

The ZWO ASI585MM is designed for planetary, lunar, and solar imaging (the Sun only with a suitable filter) using «lucky imaging»: you capture footage for a few minutes at up to 46.9 frames per second, then stack the best frames. With 2.9 µm pixels, aim for an F/D ratio of approximately f/9 to f/15 for planetary imaging, using a Barlow lens if necessary. It is also suitable for electronic-assisted astronomy (EAA): short exposures stacked in real time on bright deep-sky objects.
The Sony IMX585 (STARVIS 2 technology) combines very low readout noise (0.7 e⁻), high well capacity for 2.9 µm pixels (38.7 ke⁻), and strong sensitivity in the near-infrared. With no amp glow and a fast frame rate (46.9 frames/s), it is a highly versatile sensor, suitable for everything from planetary to deep-sky imaging, offering excellent value for the price.
No: It is powered by its USB cable. No external power source is required.
The camera's back focus is 6.5 mm or 17.5 mm, depending on the adapter. Mounts: 2″ and M42 × 0.75.
The monochrome version is more sensitive and produces better results in narrowband, but it requires a filter wheel. The color version, the ZWO ASI585MC, produces a color image in a single exposure.
