Laser collimator for Newton & Schmidt-Newton telescopes

BEFORE YOU START
The laser collimator allows adjustment (collimation) quick and easy telescopes Newton and Schmidt-Newton.

Note: type optics Cassegrain and similar systems cannot be collimated with this laser.

Assembly

  1. Remove the eyepiece or dust cap from the eyepiece holder.
  2. Insert the collimator on the 31.75 mm (1.25″) in the eyepiece holder and secure it (switch Start/Stop facing up).
  3. Turn on the laser by pressing the switch. A red dot appears on the reflection surface: the device is ready.

Telescope adjustment

  1. The beam passes through the secondary mirror to the primary mirror.
Set the secondary mirror for the beam to arrive center (dot) of the primary mirror.
Note: never loosen all the screws at the same time. Only small corrections (≈ ¼ turn) are generally necessary.
  2. Adjust the primary mirror so that the beam reflects back on itself and reappears on the collimator's reflection surface as a red dot.
  3. Refine until the point is exactly centered on the reflection surface.
  4. If present, gently tighten the primary mirror locking screws. The dot should remain centered.

Inserting / changing batteries

When to change? If the beam becomes weak.

  1. Open the battery compartment cover.
  2. Remove used batteries.
  3. Insert 3 LR44* batteries in the compartment.
  4. Important information: place the positive pole (+) opening side compartment.
  5. Replace the cover.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning : wipe only the outside with a dry cloth.

Check laser diode alignment

  1. Insert collimator loosely in the eyepiece holder and switch it on (telescope collimation is irrelevant here).
  2. Visit turn slowly the collimator on its axis. If the point remains same place on the primary mirror, the diode is correctly aligned.
  3. If the point describes a circle, to adjust the diode using the adjusting screw with a Allen wrench* until the point remains fixed during rotation.

Warranty

Warranty 2 years from date of purchase.
