EQ6-R PRO Synscan™ Go-To mount - Performance and precision for astrophotography

Visit EQ6-R PRO Synscan™ is the benchmark motorized German equatorial mount, designed for demanding astronomers and astrophotography enthusiasts. A genuine evolution of the famous EQ6 PRO, it offers enhanced performance, remarkable precision and optimized ergonomics for long exposure observation and imaging sessions.

A mount designed for advanced astrophotography

With a 20 kg load capacity dedicated to astrophotography, the EQ6-R PRO easily supports complete optical configurations (refractor, telescope, camera, autoguider). Its synchronous belt significantly reduces backlash, guaranteeing smoother, quieter and more precise tracking, ideal for deep-sky imaging.

The system PPEC (Permanent Periodic Error Correction) allows periodic errors to be permanently corrected, thus avoiding constant relearning and improving monitoring quality.

Precision and total control with Synscan™

The snowshoe Synscan™ Go-To included for automatic scoring from more than 42,000 celestial objects (Messier, NGC, IC, SAO, Caldwell, double stars, variables, planets...). Its intuitive interface also makes guided sky tours a breeze.

With pointing accuracy up to 5 minutes of arc (RMS) and a resolution of approx. 0.14 arc-seconds, This mount guarantees optimum precision for tracking and imaging.

Robust design and advanced features

  • Belt drive for quiet, backlash-free operation
  • Integrated SNAP port for direct camera control
  • Enhanced latitude adjustment (5° to 65°)
  • Integrated carrying handle for added convenience
  • Ultra-stable 2-inch stainless steel tripod
  • Double dovetail compatible (45 mm / 75 mm)

The EQ6-R PRO is also equipped with a polar viewfinder for precise alignment, essential for astrophotography.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO best suited for?

A reference mount for deep-sky astrophotography with an 80–130 mm refractor, a 200 mm Newtonian, or a 9.25″ Schmidt-Cassegrain: Sky-Watcher specifies a 20 kg load capacity for astrophotography, not including the counterweight. It’s also suitable for visual observing, but with a head weighing 17.3 kg and a tripod weighing 7.5 kg, it’s better suited for use in the backyard or at a location accessible by car than for hiking.

What sets the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO apart from other mounts?

Belt drive (less play than gears), PPEC correction across 100 segments, dual Vixen/Losmandy mount, and a USB port for direct computer control (ASCOM, EQMOD/INDI). It offers the best load-to-price ratio in the Sky-Watcher line, though at the cost of significant weight (17.3 kg for the head plus two 5 kg counterweights).

Does the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO come with counterweights?

Yes, just like any German equatorial mount. The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO comes with 2 × 5 kg of counterweights and a counterweight bar (Ø 18 mm, 240 mm + 180 mm extension).

What power supply should I use for the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO?

The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO requires a 12 V DC (11 to 16 V), 4 A power supply. The power supply is not included; we recommend the'12 V, 10 A power supply plugged into an outlet, or the Pocket Powerbox Advance (Gen2) to supply 12 V power to the mount and accessories in the field. For neat wiring, the Pegasus Saddle Powerbox climbs onto the saddle with the'dedicated interface.

Which tripod comes with the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO?

The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO comes with its stainless steel tripod with 2″ legs (7.5 kg).

How do you operate the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO?

The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO can be controlled using a hand controller or a computer via USB (ASCOM, INDI). For autoguiding (ST4 port), a guide scope such as the 52 Scope guide or the Sky-Watcher EVOGUIDE-50ED is appropriate.
