Baader Hyperion Universal Zoom Mark IV 8-24 mm (1¼"/2″)

A single eyepiece for 5 magnifications? Once a fantasy, now a qualitative reality!

Why choose the Hyperion Zoom Mark IV?

Designed to go against the grain of most zooms, theHyperion Zoom Mark IV 8-24 mm focuses on optical quality at maximum magnificationchoice of lenses, careful polishing and design optimized to maintain best sharpness and a field of view that widens as you get closer to the target (up to 68° at maximum zoom). The result is a versatile, precise and pleasing eyepiece that has become a favorite of many astronomers, nature observers and birdwatchers - it's also the only zoom designed from the outset for true binocular use.

5 eyepieces in one: 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 / 24 mm

Visit continuous magnification from 8 to 24 mm is punctuated by ClickStops for 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 mm focal lengths. These stops make adjustment fast, precise and repeatableeven in the dark. For binocular use, two eyepieces Mark IV synchronize in an instant at the same magnification. The click was softened to avoid disturbing wildlife during close-range observations.

What's new in this version Universal Zoom Mark IV

  • Lighter weight290 g (approx. -80 g vs. previous generation).
  • 55 mm diameterbinocular compatible from one interpupillary distance 55 mm.
  • Removable, adjustable eyecup releasing the thread M43 photo/video and maximizing nasal space in bino (rubber grommets supplied).
  • Optimized ClickStopmore straightforward access to 8/12/16/20/24 mm stops.
  • Revamped zoom mechanism: smooth operation in cold weather, fragrance between focal lengths.
  • Backfocus increased by approx. 4 mmA decisive advantage with many spotting scopes.

Visit Mark IV is supplied with two turrets (1¼" and 2″) threads for filters, and Zero-Tilt safety notches and an anti-slip Baader pocket yellow strap (can also be attached to a tripod stand, perfect for preventing caps from getting lost).

High-end optical finish

Multilayer treatments Phantom Group Coating minimize reflections and losses, ensuring high contrast from planets to deep sky. The eyepiece remains parfocal over the entire range: zoom in without refocusing. At 8 mm, enjoy a apparent field of view up to 68ideal for comfortably framing detailed objects.

Telescope-side connections

1¼" and 2″ sockets (removable)

The 1¼" and 2″ barrels can be mounted/dismounted according to your angled return or eyepiece holder. One SC 2″ thread enables direct connection on telescopes/mirrors/prisms via optional 2″/2″ ring (ref. #1508080).

Adapters included "A" (spotting scope) & "B" (telescope)

  • Adapter A (spotting scope) the Mark IV gains ≈ 4 mm of backfocus and reaches over
infinity easily on spotting scopes that mechanically accept 1¼" eyepieces but struggle to do MAP.
Remove the 1¼" turret and use the 1 3/8″ internal thread to screw securely onto
    Celestron Ultima and equivalents.
Optional bayonet adapter Zeiss Diascope (ref. 2454500) and other SPOT threaded bushes available.
  • Adapter B (telescope) Add the space needed to prevent the SC 2″ (5 cm) retaining ring from
the clamping screws of the angle drive. The SC 2″ ring supplied also secures the fastening on any SC thread,
including our 2″ diagonal with click lock via 2″/2″ adapter (ref. 1508020).

Refer to the manual for details of adaptor configurations and changes.

Camera connections

M43 thread & eyepiece projection

Like all Baader eyepieces, the Mark IV features a M43 thread in the lead for video cameras and SLR via T-2 (ring M43i → T-2a ref. 2958080optional). The spacer ring M43/M43 (+7.5 mm) ref. 2954250 can raise the eyelets
or avoid contact of an M43 housing with the lens.

Hyperion DT system (SP54)

With the M43 ↔ SP54 ring (ref. 2958086option), access the Hyperion DT rings to couple all current digital camera lenses in eye projection. See "Eyepiece accessories" for a list of DT rings.

Eyelets & visual comfort

  • Large, height-adjustable eyecup (factory-fitted): counter-clockwise rotation for extension; unscrews beyond the stop to reveal the M43 thread.
  • Non-folding rubber eyecup Perfect for binocular viewing without glasses; good support and stable eye distance.
  • Low eyecup with fold-down eye guard ideal for spectacle wearers; side shields to block stray light.

Extended range with 2.25× Barlow

Screw on Barlow Hyperion 2,25× on the 1¼ " turret to transform the zoom into a powerful 3.6-10.7 mm.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Does the field shrink as you zoom in?

No. Unlike many zooms, the Mark IV offers the largest apparent field at maximum magnification
(≈ 68° at 8 mm), for an immersive feel when you "bring" the object closer.

Is it binocular-friendly?

Yes. The diameter 55 mmthe ClickStops and theremovable eyecup which frees up nasal space, make the Mark IV particularly comfortable for bino use. Setting two eyepieces to the same magnification is a breeze, even in the dark.

Does it work in cold weather?

Baader revised the zoom mechanism and internal rails for a low-temperature fluid operation.

Can I use it on a spotting scope?

Yes, viaadapter A which adds ~4 mm of backfocus. Solutions exist for Celestron Ultima, Zeiss Diascope (bayonet ref. 2454500) and other models via optional rings.

What about photo/video?

Threading M43 accepts video cameras directly. For an SLR/DLR, use the ring M43i→T-2a (2958080) or the Hyperion DT via SP54 (2958086) for eye projection.

I want even more magnification...

Add the Barlow Hyperion 2,25×your beach becomes ≈ 3.6 - 10.7 mmwithout sacrificing image quality.
