Product description

The Sky-Watcher Quattro-200P f/4 is a steel-tube Newtonian telescope designed for deep-sky astrophotography. Its focal length of 800 mm and its parabolic primary mirror make it an instrument well-suited for imaging nebulae and galaxies. The The weight listed by Sky-Watcher is approximately 9.5 kg. It comes as a bare optical tube, without a mount.

A Bright Lens for Astrophotography

The Quattro-200P belongs to the 200-mm Newtonian class; Sky-Watcher lists the primary mirror diameter as 205 mm for this version. Its aperture ratio f/4 is particularly well-suited for photographing faint deep-sky objects. The parabolic mirror is made of borosilicate glass with low thermal expansion. The interior of the tube features diaphragms designed to limit stray light and preserve image contrast.

A 10:1 zoom ratio

The eyepiece holder 50.8 mm (2-inch) Crayford Linear Power features a 10:1 gear ratio for precise focusing. Its ball-bearing guide and tension adjustment allow its operation to be adapted to the installed equipment. Adapters for 50.8 mm and 31.75 mm accessories are included. A locking screw secures the position after focusing.

Weight, Size, and Choice of Frame

The steel tube has an outside diameter of 23.5 cm and a reported length of 71.1 cm. To determine the correct size for your frame, use the manufacturer's approximate weight of 9.5 kg, then take into account any additional equipment: camera, corrector, filter wheel, and any guiding system. Check the load capacity suitable for astrophotography and make sure the entire setup is properly balanced, especially if you have heavy camera equipment mounted on the side of the tube.

Equipment Provided and Accessories to Bring

The tube is supplied with a 9×50 Right-Handed Scope, its mounting clamps, a Vixen-style dovetail, and a parallel camera mount. The finder scope makes it easier to point the telescope once it is aligned with the instrument. Visual observation is still possible with suitable eyepieces, which should be selected separately depending on the objects being observed and the desired magnification.

The mount, eyepieces, and coma corrector are not included. For astrophotography, be sure to include a corrector compatible with an f/4 Newtonian telescope to correct the shape of stars at the edge of the field of view, as well as the rings needed for your camera. Also check the alignment of the mirrors and fine-tune the focus while the telescope warms up: these adjustments determine the quality of the images.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What can you see with the Sky-Watcher Quattro-200P?

With a 205-mm aperture at f/3.9 and a focal length of 800 mm, it is primarily an astrophotography instrument: when used with a camera, it is designed to photograph nebulae, galaxies, and clusters, offering a good balance between field of view and detail.

Is it easy to carry?

It can still be transported by car: the tube weighs about 9 kg.

Should we aim it at him?

Yes, and with care: in astrophotography, an open-aperture Newtonian telescope at f/3.9 requires precise collimation. A collimation laser simplifies the adjustment. The Sky-Watcher Collimation Guide (EN) explains the procedure.

Can we take pictures?

Yes, that’s what it’s designed for: it mounts on a motorized equatorial mount (not included) with an astro camera or a regular camera. With an aperture of f/3.9, it gathers light very quickly, so exposure times remain short. With a tube weighing about 9 kg (without accessories), choose a mount with a load capacity that leaves some margin.

What's in the box?

205 mm Newtonian optical tube, 2″ Crayford eyepiece holder with 10:1 dual-speed adjustment, 1.25″ and 2″ eyepiece adapters, 9×50 finder scope, tube clamps, Vixen dovetail, piggyback camera adapter.
