Dual 4K camera: detailed deep sky and ultra-wide field of view
A 50-mm telephoto lens for celestial objects
The main camera uses an 8.3-megapixel 1/1.2-inch sensor, paired with a 50-mm lens with an f/5.2 aperture and a 260-mm focal length. Its announced 24 × 36 equivalent focal length of 880 mm narrows the field of view to deep-sky objects. Galaxies, planetary nebulae, H II regions, and clusters are thus captured at a resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels at 1× magnification, with 2.9 µm pixels.
A wide-angle camera to put the sky back in its proper context
The second camera also has 8.3 MP, with a 1/2-inch sensor, a 6 mm focal length at f/1.75, and a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 24 × 36. Its 63° field of view in portrait orientation opens the door to compositions that include the Milky Way, constellations, and a terrestrial foreground. The S50 Pro can thus switch from a tight celestial view to a very wide scene without changing instruments.
Four-element APO ED optics in a portable format
The telephoto lens features a four-element apochromatic design incorporating ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass. This design is intended to reduce chromatic aberration and preserve cleaner star images across the field of view. The folded optical path allows the 260 mm focal length to be housed in a body that is only 268 mm tall when folded.
The main body weighs about 2.8 kg and attaches to the included tripod via a 3/8-16 thread. The new two-section carbon-fiber tripod offers two leg angles to make it easier to adjust the height and stability to the terrain.
The included carrying case makes it easy to take it to a garden, a balcony, or a darker viewing spot.
Automated astrophotography using the Seestar app
Choose a target; the Seestar will take care of the aiming.
The celestial database and the GoTo system allow you to search for an object and then automatically initiate pointing, focusing, framing, tracking, and image capture. Live stacking combines the usable exposures to gradually reveal faint structures and colors invisible to the naked eye. This approach is suitable for both beginners and experienced observers who want to quickly set up a second, standalone instrument.
Plan multiple targets overnight
Plan mode helps you prepare a sequence and track multiple objects in succession. This makes it possible to spend an entire night observing a list of galaxies or nebulae without having to manually repeat each step. However, automation does not replace the need to monitor the weather and the environment: always protect the instrument in case of rain, heavy condensation, strong winds, or unexpected obstacles.
Process and share without having to use multiple software programs
The app includes tools for cropping, adjusting brightness, contrast, and saturation, reducing noise, and managing stars. The enhancement features work on the actual images captured by the camera. For more advanced processing, JPEG and FITS files can be retrieved and processed in dedicated software.
Deep-Sky Mosaics, the Milky Way, and Wide-Field Images
Mosaic mode methodically shifts the telephoto frame, captures several adjacent areas, and then stitches them together. It expands the final field of view while preserving the level of detail of the 260 mm focal length. This feature is ideal for targets larger than the native field of view, such as large nebular complexes or certain galaxies along with their surroundings. Depending on the project, the stitched image can achieve a resolution of up to 8K.
The wide-angle camera, meanwhile, offers tools specifically designed for Milky Way photography: wide-field stacking, arch panoramas, time-lapse sequences, and star trails. Sky tracking can be combined with separate processing of the foreground to keep the landscape in focus. Constellation recognition also helps identify major celestial features and allows you to switch directly from their display to an observable target.
Built-in deep-sky filters and a solar filter included
Both optical channels feature a UV/IR-cut filter. The telephoto camera includes a dual-band filter designed to isolate the O III and Hα lines, with specified bandwidths of 30 nm and 20 nm. It helps enhance the contrast of many emission nebulae when the sky is affected by light pollution. A dark-frame filter dedicated to calibration images is also included on the telephoto channel.
The included external magnetic solar filter allows you to photograph the Sun when Seestar’s recommended mode and safety procedures are followed. The lunar and landscape modes round out the camera’s capabilities for photographing the Moon, panoramas, animals, or distant subjects during the day.
Simple altazimuth mount or more advanced equatorial mode
For quick setup, the S50 Pro operates on its built-in altazimuth mount: level the tripod, connect to the app, and start observing. The instrument also supports equatorial mode. With proper setup and precise polar alignment, Seestar claims single exposures of up to 60 seconds in EQ mode. This exposure time is not available in altazimuth mode, and the result depends directly on the quality of the setup.
ASCOM Alpaca’s open support also allows the telescope to be integrated with compatible third-party applications, including N.I.N.A., for users who wish to develop a computer-based workflow. Exact compatibility depends on the versions of the firmware, the application, and the third-party software installed.
Up to 9 hours of battery life and 128 GB of storage
The built-in 10,000 mAh battery is rated for up to 9 hours of battery life. This figure was measured by the manufacturer at temperatures above 25 °C, in altazimuth mode, and with the telephoto channel set to “starry sky” mode; cold temperatures, Wi-Fi, mount movements, image processing, and other active functions may reduce the actual battery life.
Power and charging are handled via the USB-C port, with fast charging of up to 12 V / 3 A when a compatible charger is used. No AC adapter is included in the standard package.
The 128 GB eMMC storage provides approximately 100 GB of space for user data, with the remainder reserved for the system. Files can be transferred via Wi-Fi or USB-C. Bluetooth simplifies detection and initial connection, while dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi ensures smooth operation when near the instrument.

Pre-ordering the Seestar S50 Pro: How Does the Allocation Process Work?
Pre-orders are processed in the order they are confirmed: first come, first served. When a
shipment arrives, units are allocated to confirmed orders in chronological order, up to the quantities
actually delivered by the supplier. Ordering earlier gives you an earlier place in the allocation queue.
The date on which the manufacturer starts shipping is not necessarily the date on which the shipment reaches the
retailer or your delivery address. We will notify you as soon as a unit can be allocated to your order and
prepared for dispatch. A firm delivery date is only confirmed once the corresponding stock is available.
Frequently Asked Questions About the ZWO Seestar S50 Pro
Is the Seestar S50 Pro suitable for beginners?
