Antlia U-Venus filter

The Antlia U-Venus filter is designed to capture the cloud structure of Venus and Jupiter in the ultraviolet spectrum. Using the latest dielectric coating technology, it offers high UV transmission while blocking the visible stray frequencies that usually drown out cloud detail in conventional sensors. This filter is dedicated to astronomical photography, not visual observation.

  • OD3 suppression (≥0.001) of spurious wavelengths from 200nm to 1050nm
  • One-piece, unglued optical substrate
  • Double-sided polished surface for λ/4 wave flatness
  • Surface quality: 60/40 (MIL-O-13830 standard)
  • Parallelism less than 30 arcsec
  • Double-sided dielectric multilayer coating
  • Anti-halo design for bright stars

Ideal applications

  • UV imaging of Venus' cloud structure
  • Capturing UV details on Jupiter and other planets
  • UV photography outside astronomy: flora, plant health, insects, forensic investigations

Recommendations for use

  • Remove all UV/IR filters from planetary cameras to maximize UV transmission
  • Allow for longer exposure times in the UV range, as sensor sensitivity decreases sharply below 400nm.
  • Using cameras specially modified for UV photography with DSLRs
  • Avoid use with standard electronic flash units (low UV emission useful)
