Lunt LS80MT: 80 mm apochromatic sunglass
The Lunt LS80MT is a high-performance, modular solar telescope, ideal for exploring the Sun in H-alpha light while offering the possibility of observing the night sky. The telescope features an advanced optical system based on a Fabry-Perot etalon, which exploits the wave-like properties of light to isolate the H-alpha line (656.28 nm). By adjusting the air pressure in a hermetically sealed chamber using the Pressure Tuner system, the refractive index of the air is modified, enabling precise adjustment of the etalon. This mechanism guarantees a uniform image rich in detail, revealing solar phenomena such as protuberances, filaments and chromospheric granulation.
Key features
- Opening : 80 mm (without central obstruction).
- Focal length : 560 mm (f/7).
- ED FPL-53 optics: Apochromatic doublet for perfect chromatic correction, ideal for solar and night-time observations.
- H-alpha bandwidth : <0.7 Å (single stack), enabling dynamic details of the Sun to be captured.
- Pressure Tuner System : Precise barometric pressure adjustment for optimum contrast.
- Modular design : Remove the H-alpha module to convert the telescope into a conventional refractor for night-time or terrestrial observation.
Versions available: B1200 and B1800
Version B1200
- Visual observation : Perfect for observing the complete solar disk with excellent contrast.
- Light astrophotography : Compatible with small to medium-sized sensors.
- Specific advantages : Field of view suitable for visual observation. Cost-effective solution for combining observation and imaging.
Version B1800
- Advanced astrophotography : Allows larger sensors to be used without vignetting.
- Extended visual observation : Expanded field around the solar disk.
- Specific advantages : Optimum compatibility with professional cameras. Ideal for those who want to maximize their telescope's capabilities.
Versatility and modularity
One of the LS80MT's major assets is its modular design. By removing the H-alpha module, this refractor can be used as a conventional apochromatic refractor with an 80 mm aperture. This enables :
- Night observation : Study nebulae, galaxies and planets with its FPL-53 ED doublet for pure color images.
- White light observation : Add a Herschel prism or a front sun filter to observe sunspots.
- Calcium-K (Ca-K) observation: With the right filters, explore other wavelengths to reveal solar structures invisible at H-alpha.
Why choose the LS80MT?
- Exceptional solar observation: Fascinating detail thanks to bandwidth <0.7 Å.
- Unique versatility : An instrument designed for the Sun, the night sky and even terrestrial observation.
- Options to suit your needs :
- The B1200 version is ideal for visual enthusiasts or beginners in imaging.
- The B1800 version is ideal for demanding astrophotographers or users requiring a wider field of view.
