Vixen VSD90SS F/5.5 Apochromatic Quintuplet Astrograph

Introducing the Vixen VSD90SS

The Vixen VSD90SS is a high-end apochromatic astrograph designed for demanding astrophotographers. Its advanced optics, speed and ability to deliver sharp, detailed images over a wide field of view make it ideal for wide-field astrophotography and deep-sky imaging.

Optics

• Optical design : Apochromatic quintuplet (5 elements in 5 groups) designed to minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations, as well as distortion.
• Advanced multilayer treatments : Coated with AS coatings to guarantee high light transmission and reduce internal reflections, optimizing contrast.
• Effective opening : 90 mm.
• Focal length : 495 mm, offering a fast focal ratio of f/5.5, ideal for wide-field astrophotography.

Image field

• Wide image circle : 60 mm, for even illumination of full-format and even large-format sensors, without noticeable vignetting.
• Optical correction : Exceptional all-round performance, even with modern high-resolution sensors.

Lens holder

• Sturdy eyepiece holder : Internal diameter of 87.5 mm, designed to support heavy accessories such as CCD/CMOS cameras or filter wheels.
• Compatible with adapters for various photographic accessories.

Technical advantages

• Outstanding optical performance:
  • Perfect aberration correction across the entire field.
  • Ideal for capturing deep-sky objects with sharp detail and high contrast.
• System speed :
  • The f/5.5 ratio reduces exposure times while capturing a large amount of light.
• Robust mechanical construction :
  • Lightweight yet sturdy tube, designed to avoid mechanical flexing that could affect image quality.
  • Ideal for installation on precise equatorial mounts.
• Versatility :
  • Optimized for astrophotography, but also suitable for visual observation with appropriate accessories.

Main applications

• Wide-field astrophotography: capture objects such as diffuse nebulae, extended galaxies or open clusters.
• Scientific imaging: Adapted to modern sensors thanks to its advanced optical correction and large image circle.

Compatible accessories

• Adapters for full-frame or APS-C cameras.
• Correctors or reducers (depending on configuration).
• Precise equatorial frames like the Vixen SXP or SXD2.
• Flight case for transport, even by plane.

Conclusion

The Vixen VSD90SS is an exceptionally well-designed astrograph designed to meet the needs of modern astrophotographers. Its optical quality, robust mechanics and wide image circle make it an ideal choice for capturing spectacular, detailed images of the deep sky. Adopt the VSD90SS to explore the cosmos with remarkable precision and contrast.
