ECCO2 automates the adjustment of heating elements connected to a compatible EAGLE computer. The module measures ambient conditions and the temperature near the optics, then calculates the dew point to adjust the heating accordingly.
ECCO2 compares data from its ambient sensors with that from probes placed near the optics. It supports up to three probes to monitor various components of the system. On EAGLE, it automatically adjusts the power of the heating strips connected to the heating ports instead of using a fixed, manually set voltage. The heating elements are powered by EAGLE, not directly by the ECCO2 unit.
The manufacturer's page lists EAGLE5, EAGLE4, EAGLE LE, EAGLE3, and EAGLE2. For EAGLE2, an update to the operating system and EAGLE Manager is required. Once the probes and the USB cable are connected, the EAGLE Manager interface displays the dew point, the measured temperatures, and the feed rate of the webs. The module does not require an additional external power supply.
The SMART function detects probes that are not calibrated or that are connected to the wrong port. If a probe calibrated on one port is accidentally moved to another, a warning is triggered. This check is useful when reassembling the instrument after transport. The DARK mode, meanwhile, turns off the module’s LED during data acquisition.
ECCO2 mounts on a Vixen-style finder mount. Its external design prevents air from being drawn directly into the computer’s heated enclosure. If the telescope does not have a compatible mount, the manufacturer offers an optional DX mount. A finder scope mount for ECCO can also be added to mount a small guiding scope on top; this mount is not included in the advertised package.
Using the ASCOM driver and a standard Windows 10/11 PC, ECCO2 can transmit temperature, humidity, and pressure data to third-party software. This setup does not allow you to control the power to the heating elements in the same way as with EAGLE. The listed package includes the ECCO2, the Vixen mount adapter, two temperature probes, a 120 cm USB-C cable, and the quick start guide. The optional third probe and the heating elements are not listed here.
