Celestron NexStar 8SE “Orange Tube”: the modernized classic

Visit Celestron NexStar 8SE is one of the most emblematic telescopes in amateur astronomy. Its concept 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain revolutionized the market in the 1970s thanks to a rare balance: a lot of openness, an instrument compact and use simple.

This “SE” version takes up the iconic design orange tube by adding modern functions (GoTo, database, rapid alignment) to offer a premium experience for beginners and experienced observers alike.

Why it's excellent (even as a first “real” telescope)

  • 203.2 mm (8″) opening High light collection to reveal details of the Moon, planets and many deep-sky objects.
  • Motorized GoTo the mount automatically points and tracks objects (more time observing, less time searching).
  • Database 40,000+ objects planets, nebulae, galaxies, clusters, double stars...
  • SkyAlign : set up and align in just a few minutes, even if you don't know much about the sky.
  • Portable format design single-arm fork + steel tripod, can be disassembled into separate parts for transport and storage.
  • StarBright XLT optics High-quality treatments to maximize transmission and contrast.

What you'll see (in concrete terms)

Thanks to its collecting power 843× that of the eye and fine resolution (Dawes 0,57″), the NexStar 8SE is visually formidable:

  • Moon reliefs, craters, faults and fine structures “like never before”.
  • Planets Cassini's division of Saturn's rings, Jupiter's cloud bands, and atmospheric details depending on conditions.
  • Deep sky These include globular clusters (e.g. Hercules), galaxies (e.g. Whirlpool / M51), and a wide variety of objects accessible from a suitable site.

GoTo + tracking: observation becomes fluid

The frame alt-azimutale GoTo automatically locates and tracks objects. You choose a target, the telescope moves to it, then keeps it centered. The result: more comfortable observation, especially at high magnification.

  • Pointing speeds 9 speeds, up to 5°/second
  • Tracking speeds sidereal, solar, lunar
  • Modes Alt-Az, EQ North / EQ South (EQ mode possible with wedge)
  • NexStar+ Racquets double-line LCD display + base 40,000 items + 200 programmable objects
  • Sky Tour the telescope can offer the best visible targets of the moment

SkyAlign: simple, fast, effective

NexStar 8SE uses SkyAlign just center three shiny objects (stars or planets) and then confirm. Even without any knowledge of the sky, alignment takes just a few minutes.

StarSense compatibility (very important)

Yes: the NexStar 8SE is compatible with StarSense® technology (e.g. StarSense AutoAlign). With the addition of this accessory, alignment can be carried out automatically, This further simplifies first outings and speeds up start-up.

Going further: accessories and advanced uses

  • Fastar compatible designed to evolve towards “fast” wide-field imaging with the right configuration.
  • Self-steering port available.
  • Connectivity USB port (racket input) and 1 AUX port.
  • WiFi compatible via module (SkyPortal WiFi Module type).
  • Software : Celestron Starry Night Special Edition + application SkyPortal.
