Lunt LS60MT: High-performance modular sunglasses
The Lunt LS60MT is a versatile, modular solar telescope, designed to offer an exceptional observation experience of the Sun in H-alpha light, while allowing night-time use to observe the deep sky or planets. This telescope is based on a fascinating scientific principle: the use of the Fabry-Perot etalon, an optical system that exploits the wave-like properties of light.
Scientific operation of the Fabry-Perot standard
At the heart of the LS60MT is an H-alpha standard filter, based on two parallel-sided blades with a high-reflectivity coating. As a beam of light passes through these blades, it is split, reflected and recombined. This process creates light interference, generating dark or bright areas depending on the wavelength. By precisely adjusting the spacing between the blades and the angle of incidence, only certain specific wavelengths, such as the H-alpha line (656.28 nm), are allowed to pass through. This line reveals fascinating details of the solar chromosphere, such as protuberances and filaments. The blocking filter (BF) completes the system, eliminating other unwanted harmonics to ensure safe, clear observation.
Main technical data
- Opening : 60 mm (useful in H-alpha), extendable to 70 mm for other uses.
- Focal length : 420 mm.
- Doublet ED FPL-51 : Apochromatic optics offer excellent correction of chromatic aberrations.
- H-alpha bandwidth : <0.7 Å (single stack), enabling dynamic details of the Sun to be captured.
- Pressure Tuner System : Barometric pressure adjustment to optimize bandwidth in response to variations in temperature or atmospheric pressure.
- Modular design : The H-alpha module can be removed to transform the telescope into a classic telescope for the night or terrestrial sky.
Versions available: B600 and B1200
B600 version
- Visual observation : Perfect for amateurs wishing to explore the Sun with a standard field of view.
- Light astrophotography : Compatible with small sensors.
- Highlights : Compact and economical, sufficient for detailed visual observations.
Version B1200
- Enlarged field of vision : Ideal for observing or photographing the complete solar disk without vignetting.
- Advanced astrophotography : Compatible with larger sensors, to capture detailed images of the Sun.
- Highlights : Greater versatility for demanding users, ideal for combining visual observation and professional imaging.
Versatility and modularity
One of the LS60MT's major assets is its modular design. By removing the H-alpha module, you can use this refractor as a conventional apochromatic refractor with a 70 mm aperture (instead of 60 mm). This enables :
- Night observation: Study nebulae, galaxies and planets thanks to its FPL-51 ED doublet for pure color images.
- Use in white light : Add a Herschel prism or a front sun filter to observe sunspots.
- Calcium-K (Ca-K) observation: With the right filters, explore other wavelengths to reveal solar structures invisible at H-alpha.
Why choose the LS60MT?
- Exceptional solar observation: Discover the Sun like never before, thanks to impressive resolution and contrast.
- Unique modularity : A single instrument to explore the Sun, the night sky and nature on Earth.
- Options to suit your needs :
- The B600 version for visual enthusiasts or beginners in imaging.
- The B1200 version for demanding astrophotographers or those looking for a wider field of view.
- Premium optical quality: FPL-51 ED doublet for sharp, high-contrast images in all configurations.
