Visit ZWO AM3N represents the new generation of ZWO's famous AM series. Designed for astrophotographers looking for both accuracy, ease of use, and portability, this deformation-wave gear mount builds on the qualities that made the AM3 a success while improving its integration with the ZWO ecosystem.
Weighing just 4.1 kg, the AM3N stands out for its particularly compact and portable design. Yet it offers a load capacity of up to 8 kg without a counterweight and up to 13 kg with a counterweight, which allows it to accommodate a wide range of telescopes and photographic equipment.
At the heart of AM3N lies a system Strain Wave Gear specially developed by ZWO. This technology enables a compact and lightweight mount while maintaining high torque and excellent tracking accuracy.
The mechanism combines a Strain Wave gearbox with a synchronous belt drive, to achieve a gear ratio of 300:1. This architecture ensures quiet operation and a very low periodic error, two characteristics that are particularly important for deep-sky astrophotography.
Each frame is individually tested at the factory and comes with a Periodic Error (PE) Curve Ratio. The measured differences range from ±15 arcseconds, thereby providing the user with an accurate indication of the tracking performance of their unit.
With only 4.1 kg, the ZWO AM3N is particularly well-suited for astrophotographers looking for an easily transportable setup. Its light weight makes it easy to travel to locations with darker skies, without sacrificing the capabilities offered by a full equatorial mount.
Its load capacity of 8 kg without a counterweight allows for a particularly lightweight design. For larger pieces of equipment, the use of a counterweight allows the capacity to be increased to 13 kg. The AM3N can therefore support both lightweight portable setups and larger astronomical instruments.
ZWO has paid particular attention to the integration of the connections in order to minimize cable clutter. Thanks to its tight integration with the’ASIAIR, the AM3N can operate with a particularly clean and simplified setup.
A A USB-C port and a 12-volt output are built directly into the dovetail. This design makes it possible to bring the connections for the equipment mounted on the frame closer together and reduce the number of cables needed.
When combined with an ASIAIR, the configuration can thus be organized around just two main power cables, one for the mount and the other for the ASIAIR controller. The result is a setup that is clearer, quicker to set up, and easier to transport.
The AM3N offers great flexibility thanks to its two operating modes. It can be used in both equatorial and altazimuth modes, allowing the mount to be adapted to various astronomical applications.
You can easily switch modes using the’the SkyAtlas app or a remote control. The latitude scale is adjustable from 0° à 90°, which makes it possible to adapt the mount to a wide variety of observing locations, from regions near the equator to high latitudes.
The ZWO AM3N can be controlled directly from a smartphone using its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The control app offers various features designed to simplify navigation and control of the mount.
These include, in particular, a virtual joystick, the GOTO function, Tonight’s Target, and Live Preview. This allows users to easily select a celestial object, control the mount's movements, and prepare for their observations from their mobile device.
This wireless capability is particularly useful when working on the go, as it reduces the number of connections needed while still allowing you to control the mount remotely.
The AM3N also integrates into a wide range of control environments thanks to its compatibility with ASCOM, INDI, and ASIAIR, as well as with other compatible systems.
Its integration with the ZWO ecosystem is particularly advanced. When paired with an ASIAIR, the mount can be controlled via cable or wirelessly, allowing for centralized management of the setup and easy synchronization of the various astrophotography devices.
The combination of high-performance Strain Wave mechanics, lightweight design, and integrated connectivity makes the AM3N a particularly attractive solution for astrophotographers looking to minimize the complexity of their equipment.
It lets you enjoy a load capacity up to 13 kg, while maintaining a format that is easy to transport. Its quiet operation, controlled periodic error, and numerous control options make it a mount that is particularly well-suited for both deep-sky imaging and astronomical observation.
