Compact, serious optics

The DWARF Mini features a telephoto lens of 150 mm focal length at f/5 (30 mm aperture), 6 apochromatic lenses for sharp, chromatism-free images. Full-format equivalent focal length reaches 1016 mm, ideal for framing deep-sky nebulae and galaxies. A second 6.7 mm (45 mm equivalent) wide-angle lens enables rapid framing, the photograph of the Milky Way and threads of stars.

Optical specifications :

  • Main sensor : Sony STARVIS 2 IMX662, 1/2.8″, 2.9 µm pixels
  • Wide-angle sensor: OmniVision OV02K10
  • Resolution: 1920 × 1080 px (2 MP) in RAW
  • Field of view: 2.45° × 1.20° (telephoto), i.e. about 5× the Moon's apparent diameter
  • Wide-angle field of view: approx. 50° × 25°.

Pose longue de 90 secondes avec le DWARF Mini

Equatorial mode: the key to serious astrophotography

This is the DWARF Mini's great advantage over its direct competitors. Visit equatorial mode (EQ) to compensate for the Earth's rotation and achieve single shots up to 90 seconds without star trails. In concrete terms, this means deeper, less noisy images and better rendering of faint nebulae, a level of performance normally found on much bulkier setups.

⚠️ Important: equatorial mode requires a tripod to correctly tilt the instrument according to your latitude. Without a tripod, you'll be limited to Alt-Azimuthal mode (shorter unit exposures, approx. 15 s).

Tripod: essential or not?

The DWARF Mini screws onto any standard photo tripod thanks to its 1/4″ screw thread. You have three options:

  1. DWARF Mini only Ideal if you already own a photo tripod. Place on a flat surface if you don't have a tripod (Alt-Az mode only).
  2. DWARF Mini + DwarfLab Mini Hydraulic Tripod : strongly recommended. Dedicated, stable tripod designed to unlock EQ mode and thus long exposures of 90 s. This is what turns DWARF Mini into a true astrophoto instrument.
  3. Dark Night« complete set» DWARF Mini + Mini Tripod + Baseus EnerFill 20,000 mAh Powerbank for unlimited bivouac sessions. The ultimate configuration for outings in dark places, far from any electrical outlet.

Intelligent functions controlled by the DWARFLAB application

  • Automatic GoTo select a target, the telescope finds and tracks it
  • Integrated plate-solving precise alignment without intervention
  • Capture modes photo, video, astro, burst, time-lapse, star trail
  • Live stacking see the image improve pose after pose
  • Scheduled sessions throw a target and go to sleep, the DWARF Mini does the job
  • Automatic mosaics for large objects (Milky Way, M31, etc.)
  • Multi-night Super Stack stack sessions from different nights into a single image

Image processing: from smartphone to PixInsight

Visit Stellar Studio integrated into the application, allows you to generate a shareable image in under 3 seconds: star correction, noise reduction, nebula enhancement, addition of a personal signature. Perfect for quick publication on social networks.

For more advanced users, the Exportable RAW allow full processing in Siril, PixInsight or Photoshop. You retain total control over the final rendering.

Connectivity, storage and autonomy

  • Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, plus Bluetooth for fast discovery
  • Internal storage 64 GB (more than enough for several full sessions)
  • Battery 7000 mAh internal, approx. 4 h continuous imaging, 22 W USB-C fast charging
  • External powerbank compatible, indispensable for long sessions
  • Compatible iOS and Android via the DWARFLAB application

What can you shoot with the DWARF Mini?

  • Moon fine details of craters, chiaroscuro of the terminator
  • Sun sunspots and transits (ND solar filter supplied)
  • Nebulae M42 Orion, NGC 7000 North America, IC 1396 Trompe d'Éléphant, etc.
  • Galaxies M31 Andromède, M33 Triangle, M81/M82, etc.
  • Star clusters Pleiades, double Perseus cluster, M13, etc.
  • Milky Way and star trails with the wide-angle lens
  • Special events solar/lunar eclipses, ISS transits

Note: due to its focal length and aperture, the DWARF Mini is not optimized for high-resolution planetary imaging (Jupiter, Saturn). For this type of target, a long-focus telescope with dedicated camera is preferable.

Who is the DWARF Mini designed for?

  • Visit astrophotography beginners who want fast results without investing in a heavy equatorial mount
  • Visit experienced astrophotographers looking for a second nomadic instrument for travel and improvised sessions
  • Visit families and those curious about the sky who want to share observations from their garden
  • Users in urban area integrated Dual-Narrowband filters let you image nebulae even from a light-polluted city

DWARF Mini or DWARF 3: which to choose?

The DWARF Mini is designed for maximum portability and the admission. Its big brother, the DWARF 3, offers a larger Sony IMX678 sensor (4K), 128 GB of storage and a 10,000 mAh battery, but weighs in at 1350 g. If you travel a lot or are looking for the most discreet setup possible, the Mini is unbeatable. If you want the best possible image quality from DwarfLab, take a look at the DWARF 3.

My personal opinion

On a personal note, I find it the ideal smart telescope to get you started. Naked, you can already use it and learn a lot about astrophotography. It's a great way to get started and really enjoy yourself.

The next step is to move on to equatorial mode with the dedicated mini tripod. This is where you unlock 90 s exposures and image quality takes a real leap forward. Finally, the ultimate goal will be to export your raw images and learn how to process them yourself in Siril or PixInsight to have total control over rendering. In short, there's plenty to keep you going for years to come with this little instrument.

In terms of build quality, this is DwarfLab: excellent. It's beautiful, light and elegant. It's sure to be a hit with your friends 😊
